The Omo Valley areas of Ethiopia are one of the few places in Africa where there exists a rich cultural mosaic places. Unity in diversity is one of the special characteristics of Omo people.

Our Omo Valley Travel & Tour Package will give you a new dimension to your travel desires when you have a wanderlust through various Rift Valley coffee plantations and lakes located in this area. Here you can meet Africa’s rich and spectacular ethnic groups. The tour begins from the Addis Ababa and will then move towards south to Arba Minch, one of the best springboards in the Omo valley. You will visit market towns like Jinka and Turmi for shopping. Apart from Hamer tribes, you will visit Karo, Dassanech, Mursi, and then move on to relax in the Aregash Lodge in Yirgalem where you will relish about delicious food and best hospitality.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Addis Ababa to Awassa

While going from Addis Ababa to Awassa via the Butajira route you will visit ancient cities along the way. There you will stop in Tiya at a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then spend some time at Adadi Maryam (a rock hewn church similar to the famous church in northern Ethiopia, Lalibela), then visit  Melka Kunture and finally arrive in Awassa where you will be set up in a local hotel for the night.

Day 2

Awassa to Arba Minch

In the morning you visit fish market located in Awassa and spend your valuable time on sides of beautiful Awassa lake before starting for Dorze and Arba Minch. You will visit the exotic village of Dorze that has tall houses that look more like beehives. Dorze is famous for its unique cotton weaving business and you can pick up the most amazing designs and pieces on market days( Monday  – Thursday). You can also spend a gorgeous night  in a customary Dorze hut that has communal toilet facilities. You can also spend nights on camp sites, hotels and lodge in Arba Minch.

Day 3

Arba Minch to Turmi

From Arba minch (or Dorze if you stayed there the night before) you will take a boat out on Lake Chamo to visit the crocodile market and you view some hippo sightings. After that you will travel to Turmi and pass through a village called Weyto. In Weyto you can enter  the local market (market day is Saturday) and visit the Tsemai tribe. Then you will enter  throught the Erbore village  where you can again stop at the local  market (Saturday). You will reach Turmi and home of the Hamer tribe. Here the villagers will warmly welcome you to a night of traditional dancing known as evangadi. After that you can stay overnight in a hotel, lodge, or campsite.

Day 4

Turmi to Omorate to Turmi

Morning itself you will head to Omorate and you will cross the Omo River by boat and arrive in the Dessenech village to see the Dassenech tribe. Then you will start your journey to Turmi to visit the Hamer village and you will experience the unique traditional Jumping of the Bulls Ceremony, done to represent a man’s coming of age. You will spend the night in Turmi 

Day 5

Turmi to Jinka

In the morning after breakfast you will move to Jinka by passing through Dimeka and Key Afar where you can visit some of the most colorful and diverse markets (Please note that Dimeka’s market days are Tuesday and Saturday). Later you spend more time in Jinka and stay there for the evening in a lodge, hotel, or campsite.

Day 6

Jinka to Mursi and Mango National Park to Jinka:

You will drive in the morning to the Mango National Park and visit the Mursi tribe, who are famous for their lower lip rings and earlobe plates. While you return to Jinka, you will  visit the South Omo Museum and Research Center to  learn and understand more about the traditional practices of the many different local tribes. If you need a hike into the surrounding hills and visit the Ari village instead of the museum visit, we can arrange for that. After that  you will return to Jinka where you will stay at night.

Day 7

Jinka to Arba Minch to Konso

In the morning you start your journey  from Jinka to Arba Minch via the Key Afar routs. There you stop to see local tribes, trading goods, and markets you will head to Konso  (market days here are Monday and Thurday). You will experience amazing woodwork of The Konso tribe which had been erected in honor of those who have died as heroes. They are also specialists in  their innovative agriculture terracing. You will also visit a museum to view some of the woodwork. From Konso you will continue on to Arba Minch and stay in either a lodge, hotel, or campsite for the night.

Day 8

Arba Minch to Addis Ababa

Early morning you will leave Arba Minch and return to Addis Ababa on a full fay car travel. On the way you may have time to visit a few of the previously visited sites. Reaching Addis Ababa will mark the end of the tour.
